Hello sim racers,
Following up from all the excitement around the big 2023 Q1 update and content release, one of the major changes to our existing content that might have been slightly overlooked is the new StockCar 2018x upgrade, moving these cars to build version 1.19 and bringing them in line with the recent StockCar 2018 changes we introduced late last year.
So, what exactly changed with this new build I hear you ask? Well, let’s take a closer look…
Improved 3D Model and Shaders

The car has also received fully refreshed shaders throughout – both internally and on the external bodywork. This change complements some changes to the 3D models as well, as the opportunity has been taken to go over the three different body shapes available within the class, and refine and improve the 3D work where appropriate. Now rocking a neater and more polished visual aesthetic, these cars look just as good as they feel out on track.
New Physics / Setups / Tyres
Another major improvement for the v1.13 update is a significant reworking of the physics for these second tier stock cars. Now benefitting from a revised approach to the already very pleasing physics set previously available, for this build the team have developed updated tyres as well as core physics improvements, specifically around the aero package of the cars and engine horsepower. Another noticeable change for this build is a revised suite of default setups – with unique and specific setups for a wide range of oval and road course configurations that these machines traditionally race on.
New Sound Engine Compatibility
Our new sound engine, introduced back in 2022 marked a huge undertaking by the Studio 397 team, and a vast increase in the immersive audio experience within rFactor 2. At the time of release, it proved impractical to update the vast array of existing content to take maximum advantage of the new engine right from the off, and since that date, despite going to great lengths to ensure generic compatibility for all content, we have methodically worked to bring the new changes to our existing content offering.
With this build, the team responsible for the StockCar 2018x have worked wonders to uplift these cars to work fully with the full sound engine capabilities, really helping these cars growl their way around the racetracks of rF2.
I’m sure you can agree that these new changes have done a lot to breathe fresh life into these exciting cars, adding much appreciated love to a very spectacular type of vehicle in rFactor 2. In case you missed the update notes on launch, you can check them out again below:
